Brief History:

The Department of Botany, established in 1990 with the establishment of Science Faculty. It is one of the leading Departments in the field of teaching and research in plant sciences. Since its inception, the progress of the department has been inextricably linked with the efforts of former Principal and Head of Department Dr. V.N.Kadam. Even though the department has significantly contributed in various academic and research areas it continues to strive for excellence. Currently, three faculty members are working in the department. For about three decades after its establishment, the Department is now recognized for teaching and research in the areas of Mycology, Plant Pathology, Ecology and Taxonomy, Plant Physiology, Water biology and phytochemistry.

Aims and Objectives of the Department:

  • Inspire students through teaching.
  • Improve research attitude in students.
  • To make students aware of natural resources, biodiversity, environment and their conservation.
  • To develop experimental, observational, computational skills in students which helps to lead them as an ambassador of sustainable development of our country

Facilities:

  1. Well-equipped UG Lab with capacity-40.
  2. ICT enabled classroom.
  3. Plant Nursery.
  4. Botanical garden with many rare plant species.
